How to Fix a USB Drive Not Showing Up on Windows

This article explains how to fix a USB drive not showing up on Windows. First, check out this article to make sure the USB drive is properly recognized.

If you connected a USB drive and Windows doesn't show up in the file explorer, you should check the Disk Management window. The Disk Management tool checks whether Windows will detect your USB stick. It also shows you all the hard disks connected to your PC, and you can review information like partitions, sizes, and more.

  1. Plug in your USB stick and press Windows + R. Now, type diskmgmt.msc, and hit the Enter key to launch Disk Management.
  2. Windows will scan and then display all the drives connected to your PC in the Disk Management window. Right-click the USB drive to which you want to assign a persistent drive letter and then click "Change Drive Letter and Paths."
